Monday Memories: End of the line
The banner on the side of the streetcar said it all. “My last day. Ride free.” Hundreds of Toledoans turned out on Sunday, Dec. 31, 1949, to bid the lumbering Long Belt streetcars good-bye and get one last free ride between 2:30 and 4 p.m. This Toledo Blade photo was taken on the streetcars’ final day by photographer Tom O’Reilly.
