Fulton County Fair to open in Wauseon

The 156th Fulton County Fair will kick off Friday with tractor pulls, a llama show, auction, and contests. The fair will run through Sept. 5 at the Fulton County Fairgrounds, 8514 State Rt. 108 in Wauseon. The entertainment schedule features harness racing, an extreme bull riding event on Wednesday, a demolition derby on Sept. 5, and musical performances by Foreigner on Sunday and Justin Moore and Randy Hauser on Monday. The Shades of Blue, the Van-Dells, All Things Blue, Barney Fife, and Adam's Voice also will perform. In addition, there will be a classic car show and displays from the Swanton Area Railroad and Model Club and one on the history of transportation. Competitions include corn hole contests Sunday through Tuesday. Three-point and free-throw shooting contests will take place on Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults and children over age 16. Children age 15 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Veterans and their spouses will receive free admission on Saturday until 6 p.m. Seniors will be admitted free on Wednesday until 6 p.m. Parking is free and handicap scooters and wheelchairs will be available for rental.

The Toledo Zoo will celebrate bugs and butterflies at a festival on Saturday. The Butterfly and Bug Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature educational and craft activities. BUGMAN will make a special appearance at the event, and bring along a collection of live insects and specimens. The Imagination Station will also be on-site offering science demonstrations. Other activities include bug mural finger painting, dancing, honey tasting, an ant scent scavenger hunt, and an antennae headband craft. Demonstrations include bee keeping and bird feeding. The festival is included in regular zoo admission, which is $11 for seniors and children under age 12 and $14 for adults. Children younger than 2 are admitted free. SCRAP Antique Tractor & Engine Show will celebrate its 25th anniversary this weekend. The event will feature fireworks and live music by country artist Connor Rose on Saturday and DJ Rusty and Jenn Burkett on Sunday. Other highlights include an antique car and truck display, a kiddie railroad ride, a banjo and fiddle contest, rope making, log cabin exhibits, quilting, crafts, horse plowing, and a parade. Food, craft, and antique vendors will be selling goods at the show's flea market. Tractors and engines from the event's first show will also be on display. The festivities will run from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday through Monday at White Star Park, on State Rt. 300 one mile south of Gibsonburg. Admission is $3 for adults and children age 13 and over. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
