5 homes to be open for tours in Maumee

A 1917 colonial revival with a front portico, a late 1800s multi-generational home, and a 2000 house built with rich Victorian details are just a few of the homes on display for the 17th annual Historic Maumee Home Tour. The tour runs from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and features five homes and a free dessert reception. The reception will be at the Maumee Senior Center and is included with the ticket price. Visitors also will view displays commemorating Maumee’s 175th anniversary at the Wolcott House and the Maumee Memorabilia Museum.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 the day of the tour. Advance tickets can be purchased at The Andersons in Maumee, Jacky’s Depot, Dibling Floor Coverings, Maumee Chamber of Commerce, Maumee Indoor Theater, Maumee Senior Center, and Wolcott House Museum Store. A shuttle will be available between the tour locations.

● Celebrity makeup artist Nettie Kelley will be in Toledo Saturday to host Curiously Beautiful in Denim and Stilettos, a casual event focusing on makeup trends and application. Kelley, who will appear in an upcoming edition of Elle magazine, will perform make-up demonstrations and offer tips on transitioning your makeup from summer to fall and preparing for the fall and winter seasons. The event runs from 7 to 10 p.m. at Our Brothers Place on Huron Street in downtown Toledo.

● Get a behind-the-scenes look at farm operations in Lucas County during this year’s Drive It Yourself Farm Tour. The free tour runs from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Stops include Lonnie Perry Farms, 8636 Yawberg Road, Whitehouse, where guests can see grain operations and cattle. Wine tasting and other special events will be available at Majestic Winery, 13554 Mohler Rd., Grand Rapids. Whitehouse Daylily Farm & Tomato Farming, 10433 Ramm Rd., Whitehouse, will shed light on its operation featuring specialty daylily plants and modern growing techniques for tomatoes. The tour at Stevens Gardens, 4550 Weckerly Rd, Monclova, will feature a pumpkin patch, hayride, straw and corn maze, and a farm animal petting zoo. At Ronau Swine Farm, 3625 N. Berkey Southern Rd,, Berkey, visitors will learn about modern-day pork production and enjoy a video tour and live video stream of one of the barns. The event is hosted by the Lucas County Farm Bureau and Farm Bureau members are invited to a hog roast dinner at Ronau Swine Farm at 5:30 p.m. Information: 419-849-2128.
