Toledo Artists' Club opens exhibit at O-I
10/19/2004The Toledo Artists' Club has mounted its 40th Downtown Art Exhibition today through Nov. 19 in the lobby of Owens-Illinois, 1 SeaGate. The display will feature a separate high school section of artwork entered by the students' art teachers. A public reception is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the O-I Lobby. Spectrum Gallery Friends of Fine Art will open two exhibits tomorrow. The 2004 Open Fall Show and Paul Brand's one-man show will run through Nov. 12. Hours for the gallery in Toledo Botanical Garden, 5403 Elmer Dr., are noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Winners have been announced for the Northwestern Ohio Watercolor Society Exhibit, on view through Thursday in the Toledo Artists' Club Gallery in Toledo Botanical Garden. Norma Grey won best of show; Jane Williams, first award; Dannica Walker, second award; Margie Carlile, third award, and Paul Brand, Hugh McCulley, and John Trumbull, honorable mentions.
Toledo Museum of Art, 2445 Monroe St., is scheduled to unveil an ancient Hellenistic Greek silver bowl on Friday. It was recently acquired in memory of the late Kurt Luckner, the museum's curator of ancient art from 1969 to 1995.
Downtown Latte Coffeehouse, 44 South St. Clair St., presents Weekend in the Upper Peninsula, a display of photographs by Seder Burns, through Nov. 27. An artist's reception is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and will feature live music performed by traditional Americana string band Ten Mile Creek. Information: 419-340-4764.
Space 237 Galleries & Studios, 237 North Michigan St., presents Transitions, its annual fall exhibition, featuring a variety of media including photography, painting, jewelry, drawing, and glass work. Artists include Scott Hewicker of California; Max Rojas of Costa Rica; Chuck Lawson of Georgia; Patrick Dodd of Michigan; and Toledo area artists Kim Thanasiu, Sally Thompson, Ben Moeller, Rhonda O., Dustin Hostetler, Hans Reubel, Colman McCord, among others. The Watchers, a pencil drawing by Toledo artist Elizabeth V. Jordan, has been accepted into the Cincinnati Art Club's 36th National Juried Art Competition, Viewpoint 2004. The drawing, on view in Cincinnati Nov. 5-21, was showcased in the 86th annual Toledo Area Artist Exhibition in the Toledo Museum of Art. It won the Latin Association of Visual Arts Award. Jordan's work has been showcased in exhibits in Detroit, Mansfield, and Las Vegas.
