Photo Arts Club plans spring seminar
4/13/2006The Photo Arts Club of Toledo will host its annual spring seminar, featuring presentations by The Blade's Andy Morrison, who is a master nature photographer, and Lyle Sizemore, known for his panoramic photography, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 22 in the conference center of Toledo Botanical Garden, 5403 Elmer Dr. The seminar is $40 for nonmembers and $30 for members of the Photo Arts Club, Toledo Botanical Garden, and the Toledo Area Metroparks. Applications are available for the University of Toledo Alumni Association's 14th annual Art on the Mall, juried art show, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 30 on the campus mall. The jury fee is $15; registration deadline is April 28. Information: 419-530-2586.
The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo, Kickstart Toledo, and the Collingwood Arts Center invite area artists to a free networking opportunity at the Collingwood Arts Center, 2413 Collingwood Blvd. The event, from 7 to 10 p.m. April 21, will feature food, drinks, and the music and art of the CAC's resident artists. The pastel landscapes of Toledoan Neil Frankenhauser are on display through April in the gallery of the Way Library, 101 East Indiana Ave., Perrysburg. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The Western Lake Erie Historical Society presents a slice of Lake Erie maritime history, with a display of three accurate-to-scale reproductions of early ships in the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, 325 Michigan St., through June. The models are of cargo vessel Erie Belle, a sailing ship built in a Toledo shipyard in the mid-1800s, and two tugboats, the Honey Bea, which would have been seen in the mid-1800s, and a steam tug that would have been seen in the 1930s. Library hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 1 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Common Space Center for Creativity and the Arts Council Lake Erie West will offer summer art and sciences camps at the Common Space, 1700 North Reynolds Rd. The weekly camps, which run June 12 through Aug. 25, are formulated to help children ages 5 to 12 learn how the arts and sciences are related, through experiences using painting, pottery, theater, and dance.
