River House Arts, 115 West Front St. in Perrysburg, will open a show of paintings by Veronica Leiton with a 6 to 8 p.m. reception April 30. Chilean-born Leiton, who lives in the Mexican border town of Juarez, will attend the reception. With a vibant color palette, Leiton expresses a variety of emotions and her canvases have often been inspired by poetry. The display will continue through June 4. Information: 419-874-8900.

The Urban Forest Project Toledo exhibits 50 banners on light poles throughout downtown Toledo in honor of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Local artists were charged with incorporating the concept of "the tree" in their designs. Kicking off the event is a 7 to 9 p.m. "ribbon cutting" Saturday at Grumpy's 34 South Huron St. When banners are taken down in late summer, they'll be made into tote bags. The project has occurred in several cities in recent years.

Prizm Creative Community's fourth annual juried art show will open with a 2 to 4 p.m. reception May 1 in the second floor gallery of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library's Main branch, 325 North Michigan Ave. The display will continue through June 26. Prizm members created items in categories such as in the spirit or style of famous artists; miniatures, and works that incorporate art and words. Information: 419-872-8730.

Strong Sensations: Impressionism and Symbolist Works on Paper, 1860 to 1900, opens tomorrow in the Hitchcock Gallery on the Toledo Museum of Art's lower level. Art history students at the University of Toledo selected objects from the museum's collection in collaboration with faculty and museum staff. Included are works by French and Northern European artists.

Artwalk in downtown Bowling Green will be 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. It will feature visual and performing arts sited in dozens of businesses, the library, and schools. A shuttle will transport visitors and a closing reception will be at 5:30 p.m. in Grounds for Thought, with food and live music. Information: downtownbgohio.org.
