Prizm juried show opens downtown on Saturday

Prizm Creative Community’s seventh annual juried show, ART-A-FAIR 2013, featuring art and literature will open Saturday and continue through June 26 in the lobby of the Fifth Third Center at One SeaGate, 550 N. Summit St. A reception will be 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday in the lobby with awards at 3:30 p.m. and music by Perrysburg High School’s Honors String Quartet. The lobby is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Prizm show will also be on the June 13 downtown ArtWalk.

The Blair Museum of Lithophanes will be open for the season Saturday through Oct. 27, from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Lithophanes are three-dimensional translucent porcelain plaques which, when backlit, reveal detailed images. First created in Europe in the 1820s, this is the largest collection of lithophanes in the world. The museum is at Toledo Botanical Garden. Patterns on Paper opens Friday at the Toledo Museum of Art's Works on Paper Gallery and runs until July 21. The exhibit features about 120 works of art from various artists and is drawn from the museum's collection. It explores the use of repetition, elaboration, and ornamentation to enhance visual pleasure. Admission is free. Also at the museum, the three-part Culture Crossroads special program opens Saturday. It is designed to engage participants in a deeper experience with the materials, methods, and concepts used by artists represented in Crossing Cultures: The Owen and Wagner Collection of Contemporary Aboriginal Australian Art from the Hood Museum of Art. Precision Incision, recent work by paper-cutting artist Mary Gaynier, will continue through June 15 in the Perrysburg Administration Building, 201 W. Indiana Ave., Perrysburg. Gaynier’s work, upon close inspection, shows intricate, clever images referenced in the title. The Bowling Green Arts Council is accepting applications (fee: $25) for its June 7-26 show in the Myles Baker St. Gallery on East Wooster Street in Bowling Green. Color, Value, Composition is a colored-pencil workshop led by Bonnie Auten that will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 18 and 19 in her studio near Tecumseh, Mich.
