Prizm kicks off summer program

Prizm’s Art-A-Fair exhibition in the lobby of the Fifth Third Building, 550 N. Summit St., will host a Friday kick-off party for Inspiration Staycation, its summer program of field trips and classes that will emphasize healthy lifestyles. Open from 6:30 to 10 p.m., the evening will feature a networking event from 7 to 8 called PechaKucha, followed by jazz by the Josh Silver Trio. The exhibit displays more than 200 pieces of art and poetry. Information: myprizm.com.

Art Walk will be 6 to 9 tonight in and around downtown, with about two dozen art studios, galleries, restaurants, and shops participating. Entertainment and demonstrations will be on tap. LeSo Gallery, 1527 Starr Ave., will host an opening reception for Intangible, the ink and graphite renderings of Ian J. Welch, 7 to 9 p.m. June 21. A graduate of Bowling Green State University, Welch’s work mixes eastern aesthetics with midwestern landscapes and experimental techniques. He will speak at a closing reception 7 to 9 p.m. July 12. The sixth Northwest Ohio Community Art Exhibition will open with a 7 p.m. reception June 21, and will continue through 8 p.m. July 12. Registration is open until Saturday; artists 16 and older in northwest Ohio may submit up to three entries for evaluation. Volunteers are needed to set up and take down; contact galleries@bgsu.edu. Owens Community College has laid off Wynn Perry, who ran the Walter E. Terhune Gallery in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts for 10 years. The gallery will be operated by the department of fine and performing arts.

Damián Ortega: The Blast and Other Embers continues through Sept. 29 at the Cleveland Museum of Art. It features Ortega’s innovative 2007 piece, Controller of the Universe, and Tool Bones, six plaster sculptures created for this exhibition. Information: 216-421-7340 and clevelandart.org.
