Forget summer, the fun season is about to begin.

Northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan arts groups, performing venues, theater troupes, musicians, museums, and artists are revved up with concerts, plays, and exhibits that show off the region’s strengths.

For example, in the upcoming week, the hard-working folks with the Art Tatum Jazz Society and the Toledo Museum of Art are pairing up to bring the dynamic Trombone Shorty to the Peristyle, the Village Players present Last of the Red Hot Lovers, the Toledo Repertoire Theatre spoofs Broadway, and on Saturday the sublime harmonies of the Birds of Chicago will be at the Village Idiot in Maumee. Oh, and don’t forget the Toledo Symphony’s Classics Series, which kicks off next weekend with Rachmaninoff.

That’s just the first week and it will be followed over the course of the next few months with Christmas specials, groundbreaking art exhibits, big-time arena-friendly music acts, and tons of theater performances.

So saddle up and prepare for another season of joy and beauty for the area’s arts aficionados. To help you prepare, this edition of the Arts section is loaded with calendar fillers, facts, and fun.
