Detroit museum readies 5th year of 'Inside/Out'

DETROIT — The Detroit Institute of Arts is getting ready for the fifth year of its Inside/Out project that includes putting up reproductions of paintings on the streets of Michigan.

More than 80 reproductions will be in nine communities from April to July, including Auburn Hills, Centerline, Detroit, Imlay City, Lapeer, Pontiac, Romulus and Southfield. They’ll go to nine other places from August to October. Wolcott Mill Metropark in Macomb County’s Ray Township also is among the first set of sites.

“It’s been amazing to see how Inside/Out has grown over the past four years, fostering both creativity and pride among residents within their communities,” Director Graham Beal said in recent statement announcing the list of participating locations.

The second set includes Wayne County’s Brownstown Township, Dearborn, Detroit, Mount Clemens, Oak Park, Royal Oak, St. Clair Shores and Wixom.

Each community will have from five to 12 images clustered within walking or bike-riding distance. An interactive map will be posted on the museum’s website dia.org.

Exact placements are still being determined. Over the past four years, the DIA has installed more than 700 reproductions in 98 communities.
