Stetzel paintings on exhibit at Bowling Green eatery

‘Revolutionary War Battle,’ by Bernadette Stetzel, is among dozens of paintings by the Grandma Moses-style artist on display at SamB’s Restaurant in Bowling Green.
A second installment of Bernadine Stetzel’s work on display at SamB’s Restaurant gallery in Bowling Green features pieces from the late artist’s home that haven’t been on public view before.
Stetzel, who lived in Fremont and was known for her Grandma Moses-style of painting, and who died last year at the age of 89, painted hundreds of pieces in her lifetime, many from memories of her childhood in Northwest Ohio, and numerous patriotic paintings.
The Bowling Green show is a continuation of the tour, Bernadine Stetzel, 1927-2016: A Retrospective. A first installment of her work at Way Library in Perrysburg recently closed, and is now hanging at Library House Galleries in Grand Rapids, Ohio, which collaborated on the project with PRIZM Creative Community. The second phase of the exhibition features more than 50 pieces that were displayed in Stetzel’s home, as well as some newly acquired pieces, including patriotic paintings, and floral and community scenes.
The work includes about 35 oils, 10 watercolors, and several prints. The show will also feature copies of Stetzel’s four illustrated children’s books, prints and postcard sets, as well as ceramics, blown and fused glass, jewelry boxes, and jewelry by other local artisans.
A reception for the show is set for 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 23 in the back of the restaurant, 163 S. Main St. The gallery will showcase Stetzel’s work through May 31.
The gallery will be open for viewing the same hours as the restaurant: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

■ An exhibition of art by faculty members, staff, and parents of students at Toledo School for the Arts runs through the end of the month, but is open today to the public.
The school’s art gallery will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. so that those interested can view the show, which includes more than 35 pieces, from ceramics, to watercolor paintings, to printmaking, gallery manager Leslie Taylor said.
After today, the show will be available through the end of February for viewing by calling the school and making an appointment, at 419-246-8732.
The school will also host a midwinter student art exhibition that will be open through the month of March, and will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. March 3, Taylor said.

■ Local painter Nora Sallows will teach acrylic classes to seniors in Fulton County in March and April.
The classes are open to anyone 60 years or older and will be held at the Fulton County Senior Center, 240 Clinton St., Wauseon, from 1 to 3 p.m., on Fridays, March 17, 24, 31, and April 7.
All materials will be supplied for the classes, which are $25 each or $80 for the series.

■ An exhibition of a faculty member and student’s work at Lourdes University opens this weekend and runs through March 18.
An artist reception for the artwork of Laura Ott, who is a Lourdes student pursuing her Bachelor of Arts degree in art, will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Ott is also the director of business academic advising, assessment and recruitment, and an instructor of business and leadership at Lourdes.
The show will feature about 75 of Ott’s 2-D and 3-D creations, and is installed in the Canticle Center Gallery, 5335 Silica Drive, Sylvania. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
Lourdes is also hosting its next artists lecture series from 6 to 7 p.m. March 2. The March talk features mixed media glass artists Patrick DeBreuil and Robin Schultes.
The talks are a partnership between the university and the Sylvania Community Arts Commission, and are held the night before the Red Bird Art Walk held every first Friday of the month in downtown Sylvania.
