Honda to add 200 jobs at Ohio factory, part of $220M investment

ANNA, Ohio — Honda will add about 200 jobs at its Anna, Ohio, engine plant, one result of about $220 million in new investments announced Thursday for its operations in Anna and Russells Point, Ohio. The new spending is in addition to the roughly $500 million the automaker has spent to expand its Ohio plants since 2010.

Anna and Russells Point are both about 105 miles south of Toledo, and about 20 miles from each other. In Anna, Honda plans to spend nearly $170 million to add a fourth engine assembly line and to build components that are now shipped in from other locations. The changes will lead to the hiring of about 200 workers.

The Russells Point transmission plant will spend more than $50 million on projects to “increase flexibility to produce advanced transmissions and powertrain components,” the company said.

“We continue to invest in our associates, helping to keep our operations in America on the leading edge of quality, efficiency, and flexibility,” Tetsuo Iwamura, president and chief executive officer of American Honda Motor Co., said in a statement.

The announcement was timed to coincide with Thursday’s 30th anniversary of the date the company built its first vehicle in North America at the Marysville, Ohio, assembly plant.

Honda has about 13,500 employees in Ohio, more than any other automaker.
