Jeep to refresh Cherokee by 2016

All new Wrangler due out in 2017, officials announce

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Jeep officials said early today the company plans to refresh the Jeep Cherokee in 2016, the same year that the brand celebrates its 75th anniversary.

An all new Wrangler is due a year later in 2017. Both models are built in Toledo at the company's Toledo Assembly Complex.

The plans were announced as part of a presentation outlining Fiat Chrysler Automobiles's plans for the next five years.

Mike Manley, Jeep's chief executive officer, said Jeep is on track to sell a record 1 million vehicles worldwide this year.

The company aims to sell 1.9 million Jeeps globally in 2018. Most of that growth is expected to come outside North America, as the company continues to exploit the global appeal of the Jeep brand.
