Archbold girls win district title

Archbold senior forward Cassidy Wyse poured in 23 points to lead the Blue Streaks to a Division III district title today.

Archbold led Delta by just two points at the half and four after three quarters. But the Blue Streaks then racked up 19 points in the fourth quarter to knock off the Panthers 50-40 at Anthony Wayne High School.

Wyse scored 15 of her game-high 23 points at the free throw line. Senior guard Jesse Fidler tallied 10 points, while junior forward Hannah Hesterman had eight and junior guard Cassidy Williams finished with seven.

Archbold (23-2), the No. 4 ranked team in the state, repeated as district champions.

The Blue Streaks advance to play Liberty-Benton in the regional semifinal on Tuesday at Ohio Northern University. Liberty-Benton defeated Ottawa-Glandorf 72-58 on Saturday to win a district title. The Eagles were ranked No. 6 in the final state poll.

Delta (15-10) was led by Morgan Mattimore, who scored 17 points. Junior guard Brigan Wymer chipped in with 12 points.

Delta held off Ottawa Hills 53-53 on Thursday to reach the district title game for the first time in school history.
