Coach: Craig Smith, 18th year
Last season: 5-5, 4-3 NLL
Returning letter winners: 16
Returning starters: Offense 4, defense 8
Schemes: Wing-T/50
Top players: Seniors Mason Zimmerman, 6-5, 285 C/DL; Dapo Osinowo, 5-10, 175, DL; Austin Pennel, 6-0, 225 OG; Jamar Allen, 6-3, 190 WR; Jacob Yunker, 6-4, 200, LB/TE; Phil Burke, 6-1, 190 LB; Petyton Brown, 6-1 185 DB; Alex Raymond, 5-10, 170, DB. Sophomore Evan Brown, 5-11 185, RB/DB.
Outlook: The Generals have made four playoff appearances under Smith (102-68 in 18 season) with the last coming in 2011. But AW is seeking its first NLL title since 1988.
Anthony Wayne, with 25 seniors among the 65 players, will be anchored by the Zimmerman, the All-NLL first teamer who has received a full scholarship to the University of Maryland.
Osinowo received all-league second team honors on the defensive line. Brown started as a freshman and ranked fifth in the league in rushing, carrying 91 times for 767 yards (8.4 average) and scoring nine TDs.
Potential trouble areas are inexperience on offense and special teams.
“This team is disciplined, hard working, and a close-knit group,” Smith said. “They work extremely hard and we have some play makers on offense. The defense will be solid and returns a good nucleus.”
