Whiteford’s Johnson wins state long jump third straight time

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. — Whiteford senior Miranda Johnson repeated her state titles in the long jump and 200-meter dash Saturday at the Michigan Division 4 state meet.

Johnson won her third consecutive state long jump title with a distance of 18 feet, 6½ inches, breaking her own meet record of 18-2½ from last year.

She won the 200 with a time of 25.15 seconds.

Johnson nearly won a third title, but was edged out by .08 seconds and finished second in the 100 meters with a 12.63. Jordan Goodman of Mason County Eastern won in 12.55.

Summerfield sophomore Ashley Herrmann took home a third-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 5-3.

Among the boys, Summerfield senior Josh Golkiewicz finished fourth in the 200 with a time of 23.15.

■ COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. — Erie Mason had two top-eight finishers in the Division 3 girls meet.

Senior Nicole Poca came in seventh in the 800 with a time of 2:21.07. Teammate Paige Stark, a junior, finished seventh in the 300 hurdles in 47.89.

Blissfield senior Sara Goetz finished fifth in the pole vault at 10-6.
