Falcon women long-shot winners

AUBURN, Ala. - Francine Miller scored 23 points and the Bowling Green State University women's team connected 11 times in 26 tries from 3-point range to defeat Charleston Southern 80-76 yesterday in the Kroger Thanksgiving Classic.

Joining Miller in double figures for the Falcons (2-1) were Angie Farmer with 17, Pam Brown with 12, Dana Western with 11 and Emily Poh with 10.

The Falcons hit 24 of 65 shots from the field compared with Southern's 27 of 77 - but BG canned 11 of 26 treys while Southern hit just 4 of 24.

Farmer was 5-of-8 from beyond the arc for BG.

The Falcons trailed by as many as 10 in the first half - 34-24 with 2:51 left. But Farmer made two free throws and a trey as BG pulled within 34-29 at halftime.

The second half was a see-saw affair, and the score was knotted at 73 with 1:45 to play.

Brown made a jumper to give BG a 75-73 lead with 1:05 left, and two free throws by Poh gave BG a 77-73 lead with 30 seconds left.

Kim Griech gave BG a 78-73 lead by making one of two free throws with 16 seconds left. Poh added two more free throws with 0:09 left for an 80-73 lead before Marta Losonczy made one of Southern's treys with three seconds left.

Erin Jedikowski led Southern (1-1) with 17 points and Eboni Littlejohn added 16.

The Falcons hit 21 of 26 free throws while Southern hit 18 of 30. The Falcons outrebounded Southern 55-46, but committed 20 turnovers to Southern's 10.
