Goldsberry leads BG's ninth straight win

DAYTON - Lindsey Goldsberry had a happy homecoming in leading the Bowling Green State University women to a 79-56 win over Gardner-Webb in the opening round of the Dayton Flyer Classic.

The Falcons improved to 9-2 and ran their winning streak to nine games. They will play the host school in the championship game at 7 tonight.

Goldsberry, a senior who graduated from Dayton Chaminade-Julienne, was nearly perfect on the day. She connected on all six of her shots from the field, including four 3-pointers, and made both her free throws to finish with a game-high 18 points.

She also had two assists, two steals - and no turnovers - in 30 minutes of play.

The Falcons also were nearly perfect on offense to start the game, scoring on their first eight possessions and making their first six shots from the field.

BG built early leads of 8-2, 17-4 and 24-8 and led 40-21 at halftime.

Bowling Green also was hot to start the second half, scoring on its first seven possessions to increase its advantage to 59-30 with 15 minutes left in the game.

Gardner-Webb came no closer than 17 points the rest of the way.

Niki McCoy, a junior, had 17 points and eight rebounds while freshman Jessica Slagle came off the bench to score 10 and add seven boards for the Falcons.

Gardner-Webb was led by Dominique Hudson, who had 13 points. Courtney Epps scored 11 and LaTroya Pope added 10 for the Bulldogs (5-5).

BG shot 41 percent (28 of 67) to Gardner Webb's 31 percent (19 of 62).
