BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green State University has named Mark Shook as the school’s interim athletics director.

Shook, BGSU’s associate athletics director for compliance and student-athlete services, will fill the new role as BGSU looks for a replacement for Greg Christopher, who will leave the school to become athletics director at Xavier.

Shook has served in his current role since 2006. He oversees the school's compliance and academic support services program and also serves as the sport administrator for women's tennis. He also administers BGSU's Falcon Leadership Academy as well as the Falcon Intern Program for exhausted eligibility student-athletes who are working to complete their degree.

“In Mark’s seven years at Bowling Green, he has exhibited excellence in guiding the academic support services and compliance departments,” BGSU president Mary Ellen Mazey said in a statement released by the school. “It is evident that his leadership will provide effective direction for the athletics department during this time of transition.”

Sheri Stoll, BGSU’s vice president for finance and administration, will be chairman of the search committee for Christopher’s replacement.

The rest of the committee includes Jill Carr, senior vice-president for student affairs & dean of students; tennis player Nikki Chiricosta; football coach Dave Clawson; foundation board members Rick Hargrave and Dian Tymiak; board of trustees members Daniel Keller and Fran Voll; athletics secretary Amy Lanning; Lee Meserve, BGSU’s faculty athletics representative, and Jermaine Truax, the school’s assistant athletics director for compliance.
