EUGENE, Ore. — Bowling Green State University's Brooke Pleger finished seventh in the hammer throw Wednesday at the NCAA championships.

Pleger, competing in the second flight, had a throw of 63.71 meters (209 feet) with her second attempt to advance to the finals. She did not beat that throw in the finals and finished seventh.

A native of Saline, Mich., Pleger is just the sixth Falcon woman to score in the NCAA meet, and the first since Stephanie Heldt tied for seventh in the high jump in 2001.

The only BG women's athletes to finish higher than Pleger are Huina Han (sixth in the triple jump in 1998) and Beth Manson (sixth in the discus in 1989).

Kansas State senior Erik Kynard, a Rogers graduate and 2012 Olympic silver medalist, will compete Friday in the high jump. He is the two-time defending champion.

His top competition should come from Indiana senior Derek Drouin, who won the Olymipc bronze medal for Canada. He claimed the 2013 indoor title and the 2010 outdoor title.
