BOWLING GREEN – The Bowling Green State University men’s basketball team will face five NCAA tournament teams as well as eight other teams that played in the postseason, according to the schedule the school released today.

The Falcons will face NCAA tournament teams Wisconsin and Saint Louis as part of the Cancun Challenge, will host Western Kentucky at the Stroh Center Dec. 2, and will play a home-and-home series against Mid-American Conference rival Akron.

“We are very excited and motivated about the upcoming schedule,” BG coach Louis Orr said in a release. “Our non-conference schedule allows us the opportunity to play strong and competitive opponents, which will challenge us to compete hard every play of every game. It will make us better and prepare us for the grind of the MAC season.”

The MAC’s new 18-game schedule means league schools will play two teams from the opposite division twice during the season – and in this case it means the Falcons will face arch-rival Toledo twice.

The Falcons open the season at home, hosting Earlham on Nov. 9 and South Florida on Nov. 15. BG then takes to the road for its games against Wisconsin and Saint Louis, then plays two games in Cancun, Mexico at the end of November.

Bowling Green will play four more non-conference games at home before the start of the MAC season, hosting Western Kentucky on Dec. 2, North Dakota on Dec. 11, Detroit on Dec. 22 and IPFW on Jan. 2.

The Falcons will be on the road in December for games at Xavier, Morehead State and Wright State.

Bowling Green opens MAC play against Eastern Michigan at home on Jan. 8, the first of three home league games to start the schedule. EMU joins Toledo as the two West Division schools BG will face twice this season.

The Falcons play at Toledo’s Savage Arena on Feb. 5, then host the Rockets in a rematch on Feb. 20.
