BOWLING GREEN – The Bowling Green State University women’s basketball team will face three Big Ten opponents in 2013-14 according to the schedule the school released today.

The Falcons will open the season against Michigan on Nov. 8 as part of the Iona Tournament, then will play at Ohio State on Nov. 24 as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge before traveling to West Lafayette, Ind., to take on Purdue on Dec. 22.

“With several opponents from the Big Ten, we could be an honorary member of that conference this season,” Bowling Green coach Jennifer Roos said in a release. “In addition, almost half of our opponents reached incredible benchmarks last season, participating in a national postseason tournament and/or winning over 20 games.”

The non-conference home schedule includes Niagara on Nov. 15, UW-Milwaukee on Dec. 8, UMass on Dec. 15 and Saint Francis (Pa.) on Dec. 29.

The Falcons will face either Iona or Arizona in the second game of the Iona Tournament, then play at Butler before taking part in the Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge.

Games against Marist and Old Dominion at Ohio State precede the game against the Buckeyes, and BG then plays Monmouth in Springfield, Mass., on Dec. 1.

Bowling Green opens Mid-American Conference play at the Stroh Center against Buffalo on Jan. 4. The new 18-game schedule includes home-and-home series against defending MAC tournament champ Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan.

The Falcons will face arch-rivals Toledo at Savage Arena on Feb. 2.

Last season BG finished 24-11 overall and was 11-5 in MAC play. The Falcons won two games in the WNIT before losing to eventual champ Drexel.
