BG falls to 2-2-2 with WCHA play on tap

COLUMBUS — The Bowling Green State University hockey team suffered a 5-3 loss at Ohio State on Tuesday night.

The Buckeyes continued to stay hot, winning their third straight contest, breaking a 3-all score with less than 10 minutes remaining in the third period.

Chas Niddery tallied the game-winning goal with 10 minutes, 13 seconds left in the third while Darik Angeli tallied an empty-net goal for the Buckeyes (3-3-0).

Ben Murphy scored along with Bryce Williamson and Dan DeSalvo for the Falcons (2-2-2).

Freshman goalie Tomas Sholl finished with 23 saves for BG.

The Buckeyes’ Matt Tomkins made 28 saves, including 13 in the opening period to preserve a 1-1 tie.

DeSalvo opened the scoring 2:39 into the game with assists from Rusty Hafner and Nick Oddo.

David Gust and Ryan Dzingel scored to give OSU the lead before Ben Murphy evened the game at 2-all with an early marker in the third.

Oddo gave the Buckeyes the lead a mere 42 seconds later but Williamson evened the game again four minutes later with a power-play goal later before Niddery gave the Buckeyes the go-ahead goal.

The Falcons talled 25 penalty minutes, but held OSU scoreless in five power-play attempts.

The Falcons host Alaska-Anchorage at the BG Ice Arena on Friday and Saturday, with both games starting at 7:07 p.m.
