Falcons shoot 33.3% in loss to Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS — The Bowling Green State University men’s basketball team suffered a 74-47 loss against Saint Louis on Saturday night in its second game of the Cancun Challenge.

The Billikens outscored the Falcons 45-28 during the second half and improved to 5-0 this season.

Spencer Parker scored 13 points to lead Bowling Green, which fell to 1-3 this season.

Dwayne Evans scored 14 points to lead Saint Louis, which also got 12 from Tanner Lancona and 11 from Mike McCall.

The Billikens jumped out to an early 6-1 lead, but Bowling Green cut its deficit to 22-19 with 4 minutes, 30 seconds on the clock before Saint Louis scored the final seven points of the half to lead 29-19.

Richaun Holmes tipped in a basket at 19:19 to start the second half, but the Billikens scored the next eight points to start pulling away.

Saint Louis led by as many as 29 late before settling on the final margin.

Bowling Green struggled with its shooting, making just 18 of 54 field goals (33.3 percent) — including just 1 of 8 on 3-pointers — and made only 10 of 18 free throws. The Billikens connected on 46.9 percent of their attempts from the field (30 of 64), including 8 of 17 on 3-pointers (47.1 percent) during the game.

The Falcons were outrebounded 43-32 despite a team-high eight boards by Cameron Black, and Bowling Green turned the ball over 18 times.

Bowling Green travels to Cancun, Mexico, for its next two games.

After that, Bowling Green will then face Presbyterian on Tuesday afternoon, starting at 12:30 p.m., and then play either Oral Roberts or Georgia Southern on Wednesday night.
