BGSU hockey player on Latvian Olympic team

BOWLING GREEN -- Bowling Green State University hockey player Ralfs Freibergs was named to the Latvian Olympic hockey team.

The Latvian team will face Switzerland in a Group C preliminary game in the 2014 Olympics hosted by Sochi, Russia, on Feb. 12.

Freibergs is a 5-11, 191-pound sophomore at BG who ranks among the top-scoring defensemen in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Freibergs has one goal and 15 assists in 24 games; he ranks second in the WCHA in assists and leads all WCHA defensemen with 16 points.
