BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green State University football coach Dino Babers is getting closer to assembling his coaching staff for 2014.

At least seven assistant coaches are expected to follow Babers from Eastern Illinois, where he was the head coach the past two seasons before taking the BG job in December.

The Charleston, Ill., Times-Courier newspaper quoted EIU defensive coordinator Kim McCloud and running backs coach Mike Lynch as saying they would accept positions at Bowling Green.

KSAN-TV in San Angelo, Texas, reported that Eastern Illinois offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert will accept a similar position at BG. Gilbert was named the 2013 Football Championship Subdivision coordinator of the year by FootballScoop Web site.

And the Twitter home pages for Eastern Illinois assistants Sean Lewis, Tom Kaufman, Matt Mattox, and Andrew Sowder indicate they will be assistant coaches for the Falcons in the coming season.

Bowling Green would not confirm the coaches will join Babers.

The school did confirm that secondary coach Nick Monroe and defensive line coach Larry McDaniel will remain on staff for next season, which The Blade first reported around Christmas.
