BG gaining QB, losing assistant

BOWLING GREEN — The Bowling Green State University football program appears to have added a quarterback and lost an assistant coach.

Quarterback Clayton Nicholas has transferred to BG from Texas Tech, while defensive line coach Larry McDaniel has accepted a similar position at Indiana.

Nicholas, a native of Abilene, Texas, announced his intention to join the Falcons via Twitter and is enrolled at the school.

Nicholas spent two seasons at Texas Tech, but did not play. He must sit out the coming season per NCAA rules, which will give him two seasons of eligibility starting in 2015.

McDaniel left BG to coach at his alma mater, where he was a four-year starter from 1989-92.

OSU’s Baugh in trouble

COLUMBUS — Ohio State freshman tight end Marcus Baugh faces an uncertain future after he was charged with underage drinking for the second time in six months.

The Web site ElevenWarriors.com reported Baugh has been suspended indefinitely. Though a team spokesman could not confirm the punishment, it was the former four-star prospect’s second run-in since arriving on campus last summer.

According to Franklin County court records, Baugh received the misdemeanor citation just off campus last Friday. He will be arraigned Monday.

Ranked by Rivals.com among the nation’s top 100 recruits, the Riverside, Calif., native came to Ohio State with big expectations.

His career got off to an ill-fated start.

In July, he was charged with underage consumption and carrying a false ID, resulting in the temporary loss of his scholarship and a one-game suspension.

One of four tight ends on the Buckeyes’ roster, the 6-foot-4 Baugh redshirted last season.
