Late flurry by Lakers enough to stop Falcons

BOWLING GREEN — Lake Superior State claimed a 5-3 win against Bowling Green State University in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association contest Friday night at the BG Ice Arena.

The Lakers scored three unanswered goals in the third period. Alex Globke’s power-play goal with just 2 minutes, 32 seconds left in the game snapped a 3-3 tie, then an empty-net goal from Colin Campbell with 27.8 seconds left clinched it.

Ryan Carpenter scored twice for the Falcons (12-10-5, 9-7-3), who also got a goal from Adam Berkle.

Lake Superior State (12-1, 8-9-0) also got goals from Zach Sternberg, Bryce Schmitt, and Kevin Czuczman with Czuczman’s goal a short-handed effort.

Tommy Burke finished with 27 saves for Bowling Green, while Kevin Murdock stopped 20 shots for Lake Superior State.
