MARQUETTE, Mich. — Bowling Green State University claimed a 3-2 victory over Northern Michigan on Saturday and a split of its two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series this weekend.

The Falcons (14-14-6, 11-11-4 WCHA) scored the game’s first three goals, then held on as the Wildcats scored twice in a 15-second span early in the second period but failed to tie the game despite a 15-3 shot advantage in the third period.

Ralfs Freibergs and Ryan Carpenter scored first-period goals for BG, while Mike Sullivan added a power-play goal at 1:33 of the second period that proved to be the game-winner.

John Siemer and Erik Higby scored goals for Northern Michigan, which won Friday’s game 4-1.

Tommy Burke finished with 37 saves for BG, which moved into a three-way tie with Alaska and Alaska-Anchorage for fourth in the WCHA standings. Mathias Dahlstrom stopped 23 shots for the Wildcats.
