BGSU hockey team beats Bemidji State 5-3 to clinch WCHA playoff berth

BOWLING GREEN -- The Bowling Green State University hockey team defeated Bemidji State 5-3 at the BG Ice Arena tonight.

The Falcons (16-14-6 overall, 13-11-4 WCHA) finish fourth in the standings and will host a best-of-three first-round tournament series with Michigan Tech starting Friday.

The Falcons got goals from Ben Murphy and Mark Cooper in the first period, and three goals in a seven-minute span of the second -- one each by Kevin Dufour, Sean Walker and Ryan Carpenter -- to improve to 15-14-6 overall and 12-11-4 in the WCHA.

Brendan Harms, John Parker and Marcus Gerbrandt had goals for Bemidji State (10-18-7, 10-13-4 WCHA).

Tommy Burke stopped 16 shots in goal for the Falcons. Jesse Wilkins gave up five goals on 13 shots for the Beavers, while Reid Mimmack stopped all 14 shots he faced after replacing Wilkins midway through the second period.
