On The Town: A special wedding day

Strolling down the aisle to marital bliss were several radiant brides and handsome grooms.

RICH with tradition was the Hindu-Jain wedding of Sandip Mehta, the son of Gunvantray and Ila Mehta and Angela Mizeur, the daughter of James and Linda Mizeur. They were united in matrimony with a dual religious ceremony Nov. 4 at Toledo Riverfront Hotel, with blessings from the couple s grandparents. It was an all-weekend affair, starting Saturday with a dance party, then the wedding and lunch Sunday. The reception followed that night. The newlyweds, who live in Washington, are planning a South American honeymoon.

LEGAL eagles tied the knot. Jillian Bullard and Michael Hare, after a law-school romance and launching their careers, were united in a candlelight ceremony Nov. 3 at Historic Church of St. Patrick. Then amid sparklers and luminaries, they boarded a horse-drawn carriage that whisked them away to a Toledo Riverfront Hotel reception. After honeymooning at the very private Biras Creek Resort in Virgin Gorda, the couple returned to their home in Sylvania.

MATTHEW Robon and Jamie Yee met over an operating room table during his chief surgical resident rotation at the former Medical University of Ohio and she was completing her orthopedic rotation for her master s degree as a physician s assistant. He had to wait until he rotated from chief so he would not be dating someone under his supervision.

The July 6 wedding was at the Peek n Peak Resort and Conference Center at Findley Lake in western New York, where the bride spent many happy family vacations.

She is the daughter of Jill Yee of Mentor, Ohio, and Daniel Yee and his wife, Meena, of Broadview Heights, Ohio. The groom is the son of Nancy and Marvin Robon of Toledo.

They live in Issaquah, Wash. He is with an orthopedic surgeon group, and she is an ortho-pedic physician s assistant with another group.

DICK and Skip Gross of Ottawa Hills attended the nuptials of their grandson, Jeremy Miller, in California the night before the wildfires broke out. Jeremy is the son of former Toledoans Marcia Gross Miller of Los Angeles and Bruce Miller, also of L.A. The bride is Terese Conningham, the daughter of Clark and Jane Conningham of Dearborn, Mich.

The wedding Oct. 20 atop a mountain in Malibu is probably the last, said Mrs. Gross. She said they woke up the next day and heard about the fire. A wedding the next day was canceled. The newlyweds, who returned to their New York home, met three years ago at a University of Michigan summer camp, where the Grosses always go the week after the 4th of July.

IT was a fairy-tale indoor garden wedding Oct. 13 for Mindy Greenblatt and Jason Streem. The candlelight ceremony was under a tent attached to Gladieux Meadows with a sea of white flowers, crystal chandeliers, and Japanese lanterns. The bride was a princess in a fairy tale in a Paloma Blanca dress.

A tented brunch, decorated with pumpkins, hay, and mums was held the next day at the Toledo home of Judie and Barry Greenblatt, the bride s parents. The groom is the son of Carol and Richard Streem of Beachwood, Ohio.

The bride, who holds a doctor of dental medicine degree from Harvard, will earn her master s residency in orthodontics at the University of Michigan. The groom has a doctor of dental surgery degree from UM, and completed a residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. He is the dentist for Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 5 at Port Hueneme, Calif. He was deployed to Kuwait last year, and will be sent to Japan in December. He ll finish his Navy commitment in June, and the newlyweds will finally be together in Richmond, Va. There he will start a periodontal residency at Virginia Commonwealth University, and the bride will practice orthodontics.

CELADON, gerbera daisies, and fall leaves set the scene for Tim Janiak and Leslie Webb s Oct. 13 wedding at Historic Church of St. Patrick with a reception at Toledo Country Club. The bride is the daughter of Tom and Patricia Webb of Ottawa Hills and the groom is the son of former Perrysburgers Bruce and Michele Janiak now of Augusta, Ga.

The couple honeymooned at an oceanfront condo in Maui. The groom is a pilot for Spartan Chemical, and the bride owns an equestrian stable in Swanton. They met at her stable when the groom took his niece, Claire, to riding lessons.

STEPHANIE Yocum and Charles Hansell were in matrimonial bliss Oct. 6 when they tied the knot at the Toledo Museum of Art in the Great Gallery, where they said their I Do s just below Rubens Crowning of St. Catherine. The reception was in the Libbey Court followed by dinner in the Classic Court.

The bride is the daughter of Rick and Jacque Yocum of Perrysburg and the groom is the son of Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Charles Hansell and Karen Hansell of Columbia, S.C.

The newlyweds returned to Columbus after a two-week honeymoon in Italy.

Jeff Cobb returned from Iraq and proposed shortly afterward to Brooke Lauber, a wedding coordinator. The rest is a fairy tale, because the bride magically planned her own Sept. 29 wedding in less than nine weeks. The happily-ever-after couple were wed near a pond at the home of Kelly Clark. A bale of straw, lanterns, and lots of candles, including those floating on the pond, set the scene. And who better to preside over the ceremony than the bride s daytime boss, Judge Robert Christiansen?

The bride is the daughter of Bruce and Kim Lauber of Archbold, Ohio, and the groom is the son of J.B. and Karol Cobb of Erie, Mich.

The newlyweds, who met through mutual friends, honeymooned in the Petoskey-Harbor Springs area in Michigan, then headed back because the bride had somebody else s wedding to do. The groom is the head minister at St. Peter s United Church of Christ in Millbury, Ohio, and is also employed with the Air National Guard. They live in South Toledo.

IT was like a movie setting as the rainy skies cleared just minutes before the bride strolled the aisle with a breathtaking sunset as the backdrop at Catawba Island Club, where the groom is the dockmaster. And just like in the movies, dreams do come true. Audrey Erard and Jim Wildman met through an Internet match site. After a year or so of courtship, they tied the knot and merged their family into one on Aug. 25 as their sons Riley Wildman 17, Andrew Erard, 14 and Kenneth Erard, 10, witnessed.

The groom is the son of James and Jean Wildman of Catawba Island and the bride is the daughter of Ronny and Alma Salyer of Ida, Mich. The newlyweds went to Mount Pleasant, Mich., directly after the wedding for a few days, then to New Orleans the next month, and are continuing their honeymoon this winter in Naples, Fla.

In the meantime, the joined family is residing in their new digs near Maumee Bay State Park, which works for his job, her job, and the children.

HYATT Chaudhary and Sheila Lall were wed Aug. 25 at the Renaissance Hotel in Columbus with a reception afterward. The ceremony s ornate Indian pageantry was a tribute to the bride s Indian culture. A traditional Mehendi celebration for the bride-to-be and her guests was the evening before the ceremony. On the day of the wedding, the groom rode on an ornately decorated horse.

The bride is the daughter of Uttam and Shobha Lall of Cambridge, Ohio, and the groom is the son of Riaz and Virginia Chaudhary of Sylvania. The couple met at the groom s brother s wedding in 2003.

After a Fiji honeymoon, the newlyweds returned to Royal Oak, Mich., where Mr. Chaudhary works at a private equity firm and his bride is a dentist.

JILL Johnston and Terrence O Donnell were united as one Aug. 11 at the Historic Church of St. Patrick in Toledo. The bride was lovely in a Vera Wang gown with a cathedral length veil in Alencon lace. The groom was dapper in a Giorgio Armani. The reception was at Belmont Country Club where the bridal party arrived via trolley. A custom designed, octagonal high-peaked tent by the lake created the perfect setting filled with flowers and black-and-white accents.

The bride is the daughter of Norman and Diane Johnston of Perrysburg and the groom is the son of Ohio Supreme Court Justice Terrence O Donnell and Mary Beth O Donnell of Cleveland.

The couple met through friends while he was visiting Chicago. After a long-distance courtship, he popped the question in Ireland and then surprised her with a family engagement party in Bruges, Belgium. After a honeymoon in the Seychelle Islands and an African safari the couple returned to Columbus.

BRIAN and Kimberly Chapman, the son of George and Deborah Chapman of Maumee, and the daughter of Robert and Nancy Rae of Holland, met while they were organizing a charity event through the Aspiring Minds of Toledo. Their wedding, Aug. 8, in St. Patrick s Historic church, was the first under the new steeple. After they released live butterflies, a reception followed at the Toledo Museum of Art s Peristyle.

The honeymoon was a trip to Europe, visiting the Greek Isles, Italy, the French Riviera, Turkey, and other places.

Mr. Chapman works at AquaBlok and Mrs. Chapman is a nanny for The Yark family, whose children were in the wedding. The bride s dress was a Monique Lhuillier ivory-french lace, mermaid-style gown.

LAUREN Viviano, daughter of Frank and Sandy Viviano of Toledo and James Maule, son of Kathy Pratt of Flint, Mich., were married July 28 at Glass City Christian Fellowship Church with a Sylvania Country Club reception. Needless to say, because the bride works at her family s business, Bartz Viviano, the floral designs of pinks and lime green with touches of red that she created were exquisite.

After a Las Vegas honeymoon the newlyweds returned to their home in Toledo.

ELAINE Berendsen, daughter of James and Patricia Berendsen of Columbus, and Stephen Szuch, son of John and Yolanda Szuch of Perrysburg, were married July 14 at St. Joseph Cathedral in Columbus, where the bride s parents were married 33 years ago. The bride was lovely in a white satin gown with organza overlay and a veil edged in satin with scattered crystals.

The rehearsal dinner was at the Columbus Museum of Art, with jazz musicians from the Columbus Symphony. A cocktail reception in the fountain area at the Hyatt on Capitol Square was followed by a reception in the Governor s Ballroom.

Family heritage was honored. Hungarian pastries baked by the groom s mother were served and a blessing was given by the groom s father.

Following tradition, the couple cut the wedding cake with her maternal grandfather s sword from the U.S. Naval Academy. After a trip to Italy, the newlyweds returned to their Toledo home.

The bride is an attorney for Spitler & Williams-Young Co. in Toledo. The groom is an attorney for Spengler Nathanson P.L.L. in Toledo.

ELIZABETH Wagner and Nathaniel Pittman were married June 29 in the Great Gallery of the Toledo Museum of Art ounder a billowing chuppah canopy adorned with flowers. The ceremony culminated with the groom s breaking of the glass, hand-blown at the museum. After the ceremony, the shards were incorporated into a piece for the newlyweds as the couple secluded themselves in The Cloisters for a brief time together according to Jewish tradition. Then they joined the reception at the Glass Pavilion, which included a fireworks show outside.

The new Mr. and Mrs. Pittman went on an extended honeymoon to the island of Santorini, in Greece, with a sail on the Aegean Sea, and on to other spots in Europe, including France, where they attended a family reunion on the groom s side. Then it was back to Baltimore, after a brief Toledo stop to pick up their dog, Milo.

The bride is the daughter of Steve and Judy Wagner of Sylvania and the groom is the son of Jessica Strauss and Ernest Pittman, and stepfather Paul Harris and Ms. Strauss fiance, Andre Davis, all of Baltimore.
