Getting June off to a great start, salty dogs will be cruising the lake Friday night to Put-in-Bay for the annual Mills Trophy Race. The annual preparty is Thursday night at Toledo Yacht Club. The public is invited to the event, which will include music by the Menus.

MEMBERS and guests at the Toledo Animal Shelter Auxiliary brunch May 14 at Toledo Country Club collected pet food for the SeaGate Food Bank to assist people who need help feeding their pets. Also, jewelry by Rosie Focht "Premier Designs" and Kristen Vasques "Gems and Beyond" was sold for auxiliary projects. Presiding over the day was Nancy Ligibel, president.

THE 10TH Annual YWCA Woman to Woman Luncheon May 7 at Inverness Club netted more than $16,000. That's thanks to Lillian Walsh, honorary event chairman; Denise Soto, event chairman, and the guests, who paid $100 each to attend.

The featured speaker was Ann Mincey, vice president of Global Communications for Redken NYC, and author of Get Glowing; You're A Star Right Where You Are. But it was a brave woman who shared her story of being helped by the Y's Battered Women's Shelter as she told of her survival after being a victim of domestic violence.

Centerpieces by Mackenzie Child were sold for the cause.

Raffles added excitement to the day too. A "Going Green" raffle was for attendees who provided an e-mail address.
