ATT: Friends of Photography view Parks exhibit
2/17/2010Local photography aficionados The Friends of Photography gathered at the Toledo Museum of Art Feb. 5 to view the exhibit Bare Witness: Photographs by Gordon Parks.
They listened as David Parks reminisced about his father's career as a photographer, filmmaker, author, pianist, composer, and athlete. The exhibition, which runs through April 25, features 73 photographs by the artist.
The Friends of Photography presented a donation of $2,500 to Rod Bigelow, museum interim executive director, to assist the museum with funding for the acquisition of a Parks photograph, likely from the current exhibition. The museum will select a few photographs, and the photography group, which is celebrating its 24th anniversary, will make the final choice, said Bob Lubell, Friends president.
Hundreds of photographers, designers, painters, writers, musicians, poets, and more gathered the next night in the Perrysburg home of the late Glenn Osborn, fellow artist. Mr. Osborn bloomed with creativity with the use of a camera after his career in marketing at Owens Corning, and these folks gathered to grant his last wish that friends from the good old days celebrate with a party in his home. A collection of artists, mainly in their 50s and 60s, gadded about, sharing stories.
Creativity doesn't stop with artists. Many community folks find creative ways to make a difference. This Saturday at Outback Steakhouse on Dussel Drive in Maumee from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. is the second annual Zac and Zane fight against Friedreich's Ataxia. All proceeds go toward research to find a cure for this devastating disease. Details are at zacandzane.com, set up by Zac Zies, 14, who has this neuromuscular disease.
