SEPTEMBER has been a busy month for celebrations and philanthropic endeavors.

The inauguration of Lourdes University’s ninth president, David J. Livingston, was a festive occasion Sept. 22 that included a gala reception for family, friends, and community leaders. Joining the new president were his wife Joan, son Matt, and daughter Sara.
Joining the procession were delegates from other institutions, including Denison University, Xavier University, Wittenberg University, University of Toledo, University of Detroit Mercy, Tiffin University, Malone University, Franklin University, Bowling Green State University, Mercyhurst University, Owens Community College, Mercy College, and Herzing University.
Former Lourdes presidents were in attendance: Sister Marie Andrée Chorzempa, Sister Ann Francis Klimkowski, Robert Helmer, and Janet Robinson.
Among the guests were Bishop Leonard Blair, Tom and Paulette Geiger, Brian and Mary Kennedy, Sandra Hylant, Alan and Lisa Sattler, Sylvania Mayor Craig Stough, Joan Bayer, Harvey and Connie Tolson, Fran Anderson, Brian and Faye Darah, Larry Peterson, Ernest and Carolina Enrique, Bob La-Clair, Paul and Pam Hollenbeck, Bill Rudolph, Joyce and Tom Bettinger, Walter Palicki, Jim and Mary Pope, Bruce Carver, Cindy and Chuck Dana, Dan Wakeman, Mike and Sondra Gibbons, Ann Meier, Dick and Dolly Flasck, and John Shousher.

SUPPORTERS of the Marblehead Peninsula Library, better known as the Ida Rupp Public Library, gathered at Johnson’s Island Clubhouse recently to enjoy “Good Librations VIII: Around the World in 80 Days (or One Night).”
The balmy breezes of Sandusky Bay filled the air as the 226 guests perused the tent decorated with travel destinations and vintage decor.
Hearty, home-made appetizers featuring international flavors, events to win wines of the world, a silent auction, and baggage claims containing items from the countries in which the book’s main character Phileas Fogg traveled were all part of the fun.
The event, which raised $15,000, was hosted by the Marblehead Peninsula Library Committee to help pay off the mortgage and to maintain reading resources for the people of the area.
Event chairmen were Halle Bruening, Maureen Kennedy, and Carol Wise.

TOLEDO Technology Academy 2013 graduates Alexander Foulke, Jose Ruiz, Jordan Ahrendt, and Caleb Neeper showed off their flight simulator during the Toledo Public Schools Foundation’s Engineering a Bright Future on Aug. 13 at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library.
Mr. Ahrendt, a freshman at the University of Toledo College of Engineering, said the project taught him how to work with a variety of people with different skill sets.
New plant manager of Xunlight Ahmad Taha was the keynote speaker who talked about careers in technology.
Among the guests were Toledo Board of Education President Brenda Hill, TPS interim Superintendent Romules Durant, and Toledo Public Schools Foundation board president Shanda Gore.
Nagi Naganathan, dean of the UT College of Engineering, is all smiles over the $40,000 raised for college scholarships and grants.
HOSPICE of Northwest Ohio board president Joe Conda, and his wife, Judith, hosted a reception in their Perrysburg home this month to welcome new trustees to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio board. New trustees are Ann Baker, Father Joe Cardone, Rev. Shaeim Hampton, Dan Johnson, and David Schlaudecker.
Among the attendees were Carol and Paul Kraus, Virginia Keller, Pat and Jim Appold, Linda and Jack Phillips, Rosemary and Rey Boezi, Joanne Guyton-Simmons, and Nancy and Jack Hollister.
