THE SCIENCE Society of the Imagination Station science center gathered Sunday night at Tantara Farm, the home of Susan and Allan Block, chairman of Block Communications Inc, the parent company of The Blade. The gathering was to vote on how to spend $1 million that was raised in the last three years.

While votes were tallied, guests enjoyed a tasty meal by the Beirut and Poco Piatti. Co-owner Karen Hajjar was busy in the kitchen on her birthday after returning from a celebration in Chicago.

The group voted to spend $930,000 for a new Idea Lab, a workshop and exhibit for innovation and creative problem solving.

The exhibits committee of the Science Society, which researched possible exhibitions, included Carol Anderson, Mrs. Block, Tom Brady, Brent Cousino, Labib Hajjar, and Toni LaValley.

Among those present of the 96 members were Dick and Fran Anderson, Tom and Betsy Brady, Ed and Audrey Durivage, Mike and Kelly Hart, Pam Herschberger, Hal and Melissa Munger, George Seifried, JR and Beth Toland, Dave and Heidi Waterman, Don Harbaugh, and Rick and Jacquey Yocum.

PERRYSBURG Area Historic Museum presented Chips A'Hoy: An evening of fun and fellowship on Nov. 2 at Carranor Hunt and Polo Club.

A silent auction and gaming tables run by celebrity dealers were entertaining.

Among the more than 25 dealers were Lois Churchill, Pam Bettinger, Bob Mack, Dwight Osterud, Bob Pollex, Syd Rogers, Brody Walters, and Mary Mennel.

The more than 100 attendees enjoyed the fashionably late party that started at 8 p.m. Kathy Detwiler did her holiday shopping at the silent auction.

Sponsors included Ed Schmidt Auto Group, Jerl Machines, Inc., Master Chemical Corp., and Witzler-Shank Funeral Homes.

The $8,000 raised supports renovation of the Spafford House, the future site of the museum.

Members of the event committee were Phyllis Morton, Judy Justus, Marsha Molnar, Nancy Wilbur, Cary Wise, Polly White, and Joann Ward.

THE 50th annual Commandress Ball of Mecca Court No. 73 was held recently at Best Western Premier Grand Plaza Hotel. The event was in honor of Illustrious Commandress Tanya Roach, the head of the local chapter which is part of the Imperial Court Daughters of Isis, a women's auxiliary of the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine of North and South America and its Jurisdictions, Inc.

About 250 attendees joined in the celebration.

Two scholarships from the Charlesena Harrison Smith Scholarship Foundation were presented to University of Toledo students Daylen Scott, majoring in mechanical engineering, and Kayla Huston, majoring in criminal justice and pre-law.

One scholarship from the Gladys L. Mitchell Scholarship Fund was presented to Owens Community College student Kerri Ellison, who is majoring in occupational therapy.

The nearly $3,750 that was raised supports the scholarship fund, charitable contributions, and the organization.

The committee included chairman Natasha Wedley, co-chairman Lanaya McDonald, and Lisa Fails, Charlene Miller, Barb Brown, Nikki King, Carla Fitzgerald, Linda Patton, Lavera Scott, and Danielle Shockley.
