Author will speak on Lucasville rioting

Staughton Lynd is the suthor of <i>Lucasville: The Untold Story of a Prison Uprising</i>.

After 11 days of rioting at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville, Ohio, one guard and nine prisoners were dead. It was April, 1993.

As a result, five men who were prisoners at the time were tried and condemned to death.

"I'm absolutely convinced that four of the men on death row were not responsible [for murdering the prison guard] and tried to prevent it," said Staughton Lynd.

Lynd will speak in Perrysburg Tuesday at 7 p.m. about what he learned from his six years of research that culminated in the new book, Lucasville: The Untold Story of a Prison Uprising.

A retired lawyer, former history professor, and a Quaker who lives in Niles, north of Youngstown, Lynd said he read thousands of pages of transcripts from the prisoners' trials and spoke with the men and their families.
