Local book, author events slated

The Maumee Valley Romance Writers of America's third annual Spring Book Lovers Event takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sanger Branch Library, 3030 W. Central Ave. The event is free and no registration is required.

The event will feature book giveaways, readings of published works by authors, and refreshments. Information: www.mvrwa.net.

A book release party will be held Saturday at Collingwood Arts Center for Toledo musician Adam Smietana, who has published his first book, An Incalculable Order.

The event will feature an introduction by the author followed by a reading of the poem Stillness in the Garden, accompanied by Sean Ball on bass. This will be followed by a special acoustic performance of the New Captains featuring their new album, "Bare Claws."

The show will begin at 6:30 p.m. and admission is $3 at the door of the arts center, 2414 Collingwood Blvd. Patrons can receive a copy of the book with their admission for a total of $6. Information: 419-244-2787 or www.cactoledo.org.

Connie Schultz, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author of ... and His Lovely Wife: A Memoir from the Woman Beside the Man, will be at the People Called Women Bookstore, 6060 Renaissance Place, from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The event will include a reading, Q & A, and book signing.
