Malcolm X heirs seek court order to block publication of leader's diaries by Chicago press
11/9/2013NEW YORK — Malcolm X’s heirs have gone to court to stop a Chicago company from publishing his diaries.
X Legacy says in papers filed in Manhattan federal court that Third World Press is planning on publishing “Diary of Malcolm X” as early as next week.
The Daily News reports that X Legacy wants a court order blocking publication.
The suit says X Legacy was created by the heirs of Malcolm X to protect the value of his estate. X Legacy says it holds publication rights.
A Third Word Press vice president tells the Daily News the company has publishing rights.
A Third World Press editor did not return a call seeking comment from The Associated Press today.
The diaries are on loan to the New York Public Library.
