ANN ARBOR, Mich.  — Denard Robinson says he was a little off in Michigan's spring game.

Robinson completed about one-third of his passes, had only one long run and struggled Saturday with quarterback-center exchanges.

Backup QB Devin Gardner and the first-string defense beat Robinson's team 14-7 in front of an estimated crowd of 25,000 at the Big House.

New coach Brady Hoke says he's thankful it's not Sept. 3, when the Wolverines open the season against Western Michigan in the first of five home games.

Gardner handed off to Michael Cox on a 68-yard touchdown, had a pass returned for a score by linebacker Jake Ryan and threw a go-ahead TD to Je'Ron Stokes. Seth Broekhuizen and Brendan Gibbons both ended a Robinson-led drive by missing a field goal.
