BG in CCHA second round

BOWLING GREEN -- Bowling Green will be playing at top-seeded Ferris State this weekend in the second round of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association tournament.

Game 1 of the best-of-three series starts at 7:05 Friday night.

The Falcons (12-22-5), the 11th seed, advanced by winning their first-round series 2-1 over Northern Michigan. Ferris State is 22-9-5.

BG lost 4-2 in the opener, but bounced back to win 5-3 and 4-1.

Freshmen Dan DeSalvo and Adam Berkle scored Falcon goals in the opener, while goaltender Andrew Hammond stopped 22 of 26 shots.

In Game 2, freshman DeSalvo scored twice, while Hammond stopped 30 of 33 shots.

In Game 3, DeSalvo had another two-goal game. Hammond stopped 34 of 35 shots

It marked the second straight season that BG defeated Northern Michigan in the opening round, and only the second time in the history of the CCHA that an 11th seed moved to the second round.
