DAYTON, Ohio — Officials say Dayton’s run deep into the NCAA men’s basketball tournament has been a boon for the university in merchandise sales and may benefit the school in other ways.

The bookstore’s accounting clerk tells WDTN-TV the campus has sold more than 14,000 Flyers items during the NCAA tournament. He says fans continued buying gear in commemoration even after the Flyers lost to Florida last week.

University Vice President for Advancement Dave Harper says it’s hard to put a value on the national publicity of an Elite Eight run. University officials estimate the benefits of that exposure will add up to millions of dollars, though those figures won’t be known for some time.

Harper says it also could help enrollment by giving observers a peek at the university community.
