Toledo struggled to run the ball and stop the run

After the University of Toledo suffered its first loss of the season in a 52-30 setback to Miami, here are some key stats from the game after reviewing the box score a few days later.

1) 18.5 yards per carry for Miami running back Mark Walton: Walton had two big runs to open the game with a 44-yard TD scamper and a 82-yard run that set up the Hurricanes inside the 5-yard line. That padded his yards per carry as he finished the game with just 11 rushes for 204 yards.

2) Diontae Johnson with two more TDs: In the past two games (Miami and Tulsa), Johnson has four touchdowns. He has five TDs on the season and is quickly becoming a reliable target for Logan Woodside in the passing game.

3) Cody Thompson tops the 100-yard receiving mark: In all four games this season, Thompson has eclipsed the 100-yard receiving mark and is the first guy that Woodside looks for in key situations. His big-play ability has been on full display all season long and only figures to continue.

4) 587 yards of total offense for Miami: Toledo’s defense struggled against Miami allowing big plays early on and then wearing down a bit in the second half. It started with Walton early on and continued as quarterback Malik Rosier began to find his groove late in the game.

5) Just 85 rushing yards for Toledo: While the Rockets were able to throw the ball effectively, running room was hard to come by against the Hurricanes defense. Terry Swanson finished with 79 yards rushing, but that came on 20 carries (4 yards per carry)
