Eastern Michigan coach Chris Creighton, speaking on Monday’s Mid-American Conference coaches teleconference, said if you remove the SEC and MAC labels from Kentucky and Toledo, he believes the Rockets are the better football team right now and the better program.

Creighton’s Eagles are coming off a 24-20 loss at Kentucky and travel to the Glass Bowl to face Toledo on Saturday.

“Coming off this Kentucky game in the SEC and all that, now we are playing the Toledo Rockets out the MAC and we are playing a better football team slash program this week in the MAC than we did in the SEC,” Creighton said. “I don’t care if I’m the only person on the Earth that is going to stand up and say that, but that’s what I believe.”

Creighton also said on Monday that he had the same feeling when the Eagles beat Rutgers and then turned around to play Ohio. He thought Ohio was the better team even though they were in a conference that isn’t as highly thought of as the Big Ten.
