When Kareem Hunt fumbled on his first NFL carry with the Kansas City Chiefs, it came as a huge surprise for those who followed Hunt’s career at the University of Toledo.

Hunt fumbled once his freshman season at UT and it went out of bounds. He never lost a fumble in his 855 career touches.

That has become a theme of sorts for Rockets running backs. The last time a UT running back lost a fumble was Terry Swanson in the first half of last season’s opener at Arkansas State on Sept. 2, 2016. That is 17 games and counting without a UT running back losing a fumble and 36 out of the last 37 games.

A lot of that eye-popping statistic can be credited to Hunt, but Swanson has received a lot of carries over the past few years as well. And UT has gone 211 carries this season without losing a fumble.

Ball security is clearly something that is being emphasized in practices for UT and that has carried over to the field.
