Michigan could be down one more assistant coach
1/3/2018ANN ARBOR — Michigan could soon have a second coaching vacancy.
Greg Frey, who coaches tight ends, offensive tackles, and the run game, reportedly interviewed for the offensive line coaching job at Florida State, according to 247Sports.
Frey, a native of Clearwater, Fla., is a Florida State graduate and was a member of the Seminoles’ 1993 national championship team. It’s expected that Frey will be offered and accept the job.
This is his second stint at Michigan after serving under Rich Rodriguez from 2008 to 2010.
Frey, who was at Indiana for six years, was brought back to Michigan after the 2016 season when Tyrone Wheatley departed for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Frey is paid $500,000 annually.
The Wolverines allowed 36 sacks this season to rank 114th nationally. Their rushing offense ranked 49th, averaging 177.7 yards per game.
Michigan is also searching for a replacement for defensive backs coach Brian Smith, who left to be the defensive coordinator at Rice. Devin Bush Sr. served as the interim coach during the Outback Bowl.
