  • Stephen Perry is the new women’s basketball coach at Owens Community College, the school announced Monday.

Perry, an assistant coach for the Express the past 11 years, replaces Michael Llanas, who was named the head women’s coach at Wheeling Jesuit University, a Division II school located in Wheeling, W.Va.

Owens has posted a 295-66 record in Perry’s tenure and won seven Ohio Community College Athletic Conference titles, including last year’s championship. The Express also claimed four National Junior College Athletic Association Region XII District I titles while he was an assistant under Llanas.

"I am honored and excited to take over the head coaching duties,” Perry said in a release. “Owens women's basketball has a rich winning tradition and I'm looking forward to making my mark on the program as we move into a new era.”

A St. John’s Jesuit graduate who played in college at Tiffin University, Perry also has 12 years of high school coaching experience, eight of those coming at St. Ursula Academy. He served as the freshman and junior varsity coach for the Arrows and had a 127-29 record, winning two City League titles and finishing as runners-up three other times.
