PORT CLINTON — A Fostoria man who jumped off the Jet Express ferry last July has been allowed to enter a diversion program rather than have a felony conviction on his record.

Jarrod Botimer, 28, pleaded guilty last week to inducing panic, a fourth-degree felony, but Ottawa County Common Pleas Judge Bruce Winters said he would withhold a finding on the plea if Mr. Botimer successfully completed a two-year period of intervention. Judge Winters did order him to pay $26,746 in restitution to the U.S. Coast Guard, which deployed a helicopter to search for him after he jumped.
