Multi-million bonds set for 2 charged in elderly man’s death

Two Toledo men charged in the death of a 71-year-old man were ordered held in custody on bonds of $2 million during their first appearance in Lucas County Common Pleas Court on Friday.

Kenneth Anderson, 29, of 917 Forest Ave., and Thomas Johnson, 21, of 3265 Glenwood Ave., are each charged with one count of aggravated murder, murder, and aggravated robbery. All counts contain a gun specification. Johnson also was charged with tampering with evidence and so was ordered held on a $2.5 million bond.

If convicted, both men face up to life in prison.

Charles Harris, Jr., known to many as “Chuck A Luck,” was shot twice in the head about 7:30 p.m. April 13 outside the garage where he stored his lawn-care equipment in an alley near Nebraska Avenue. Authorities believe robbery was the motive.

Judge Stacy Cook continued their arraignments to May 6 for appearance of lawyers.
