A Lucas County grand jury has returned a four-count indictment against a Toledo man for allegedly claiming that he was a police officer during a home invasion.

Toledo police said William Crowell, 21, of 2277 Avondale Ave. was one of three men who impersonated a police officer on June 15 when they barged into a Moran Avenue home and ransacked the dwelling.

The men told the 24-year-old occupant that they were executing a search warrant, and then took off in her car with other items from the home. The car was recovered nearby.

Mr. Crowell was indicted Thursday on one count each of aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery with accompanying gun specifications and additional counts of robbery and impersonating a peace officer.

He is being held in the county jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
