A Toledo man who evaded law enforcement for two years while calling in taunting reports of his whereabouts was sentenced in Lucas County Common Pleas Court Friday to 17 months in prison.

David Slover, 38, of 154 Poplar St. pleaded no contest and was found guilty of one count of attempted failure to verify. The charge was reduced from failure to verify per the plea agreement.

A convicted sex offender, Slover was indicted in February, 2009, but failed to show for his July, 2009, trial date. He eluded authorities for two years and, shortly before his June 6 arrest, made numerous calls to a U.S. marshal making false reports and taunting the fact that they hadn’t been able to catch him.

Judge James Jensen found Slover was not amenable to community control and sentenced him to time in prison.
